Onshore maintenance contract in the UK
Endiprev was awarded a contract to perform onshore maintenance activities on four different locations in the United Kingdom.
From 2019 to 2021, Endiprev will be supporting GE Renewable Energy on onshore maintenance activities in the United Kingdom. This project includes 130 wind turbines, totalizing a capacity of 315MW, in several wind farms.
Most of the wind turbines of this onshore maintenance project are in the Whitelee Wind Farm. That is the largest onshore wind farm in the UK, generating up to 539MW of electricity. In fact, the Endiprev already participated in the commissioning of the first extension of the wind farm, which added 75 Alstom wind turbines to the 140 turbines already there. The Black Law, Clachan Flats, and Maesgwyn are the other three wind farms where our teams are going to be performing the maintenance activities.
On this onshore maintenance project, our teams will be essentially performing the following tasks:
- Preventive maintenance: Torqueing, tensioning, oil samplings, break in services, battery change-outs, and inspections.
- Corrective maintenance: Large correctives, components change-outs, gearbox and generators, and troubleshooting.
The United Kingdom is one of the best locations for wind power in the world. In fact, the country closed 2018 with an installed capacity of almost 22GW, producing around 18% of the electricity demand. The offshore wind sector has been gathering a large amount of investment. Whereas the onshore wind sector in the United Kingdom counts the largest onshore wind farms in Europe.
Meanwhile, Endiprev has around 25 field technicians working in the country, mainly on onshore maintenance projects. The United Kingdom is a key market for the company strategy due to its potential in the wind energy sector. In the next few years, the county’s power sector will suffer a deep transformation, where the onshore and offshore wind will play an important role.
