Onshore wind: Endiprev first project in South Korea

Endiprev was awarded a contract to perform the commissioning of the Gimnyeong Onshore Wind Farm in South Korea.

Endiprev takes its first steps in the wind power industry in Asia. Our team will support Alstom with the commissioning of the Gimnyeong Onshore Wind Farm. The South Korean wind farm will have 10 ECO 110 onshore wind turbines, with an output of 3MW each. When operational, Gimnyeong Onshore Wind Farm will have a production capacity of 30MW. This project will be fully operational by the end of 2014. SPC “Gimnyeong Wind Power” will operate the Gimnyeong Onshore Wind Farm.

South Korea has a population exceeding 50 million inhabitants, which results in very high energy demand. The country has limited domestic energy sources and, therefore, relies on foreign sources for 96% of its energy supply. In order to diversify its energy sources, increasing the production of domestic energy, the South Korean Government relieved the restrictions for wind turbine site development and simplified the approval process. That is a measure to boost investment in wind energy in the country.

In fact, between 2011 and 2015, South Korea will invest around 10 trillion KRW (South Korean Won) in wind power as a source of renewable energy. Additionally, last year, the National Energy Plan suffered a draft revision to increase the wind target from 7.3GW to 12GW by 2030. Until the end of the year, South Korea could reach an installed wind capacity of 645GW, able to generate around 1.146 GWh.

Endiprev initiates, this way, the activity in the wind energy industry in Asia. We are negotiating several contracts in other Asian countries. Our strategy for the next years will be supporting offshore and onshore wind energy in the region.
