Case Study: Endiprev’s Expertise with GE Cypress Wind Turbines
As the global shift toward renewable energy accelerates, wind power is playing an increasingly important role. One of the most advanced technologies driving this transition is GE Cypress wind turbines, with which Endiprev has been working for the past five years.
Over the years, onshore wind turbines have seen remarkable evolution, with technological advancements leading to greater efficiency, higher energy output, and a reduced environmental impact. GE has been one of the leaders of this evolution, continuously innovating with pioneering designs like the Cypress platform, which offers greater flexibility and efficiency. Endiprev has been a driving force in this progress, adapting our technicians’ knowledge and expertise to serve clients like this manufacturer, ensuring that we continue to meet the evolving needs of our clients and deliver exceptional service.
Early Work with GE Cypress Wind Turbines
In 2019, Endiprev began its journey with GE Cypress wind turbines at the GE factory in the Netherlands. Our technicians were invited to work on the Cypress prototype, performing critical test and validation work. While the Cypress turbine shared similarities with previous GE models we had worked on, the project demanded a team with exceptional expertise et reliability. Endiprev’s extensive experience and proven track record with GE models made us the ideal choice for this critical task.
The GE Cypress wind turbine is GE’s most powerful onshore wind turbine, as it can boast a capacity of up to 6.1 MW. This impressive power output is achieved through a combination of factors, including a larger generator and rotor, as well as the turbine’s innovative two-piece blade design. The larger rotor and generator enable the Cypress to capture more wind energy, while the two-piece blade design offers logistical flexibility and facilitates efficient maintenance. These design features contribute to Cypress’s ability to reduce operational costs and maximize energy production in various wind conditions.
Our first official project working on this technology was in 2021, with the commissioning of the Björkvattnet Wind Farm in Sweden. This was a significant project featuring 33 Cypress wind turbines. Following the successful execution of this project, our performance and deep understanding of the technology earned us a long-term maintenance contract. We went on to perform all types of maintenance across Europe, namely troubleshooting, strengthening our relationship with GE.
Expanding Across Europe: Endiprev’s Success with Cypress
Since 2021, Endiprev’s experience with GE Cypress wind turbines has grown exponentially. After our initial work in Sweden, GE knew we were equipped with the right personnel and knowledge to keep working with this technology. This way, we continued to work alongside them at several key wind farms across Europe, such as:
Alto Do Minho, Toutiço, and Lagoa de João Wind Farms (Portugal)
Endiprev played a crucial role in performing the commissioning and maintenance, more specifically, the troubleshooting of these wind turbines. This project helped us solidify our skills and reputation in our home country.
WindplanBlauw Wind Farm (Netherlands)
Located in Flevoland, this project included the installation of 24 Cypress nearshore turbines. Endiprev was responsible for its maintenance, performing troubleshooting and turbine punch list tasks, ensuring the project ran smoothly and efficiently. Our teams will be working here until its expected completion in 2026.
Beyond these locations, our team has been involved in projects in countries like Lithuania, Finland, and Spain, applying our knowledge of GE Cypress wind turbines to a variety of environments and conditions. Our ability to adapt to local needs has been crucial in delivering outstanding results.
Breaking Ground in the U.S.: GE Cypress Wind Turbines in North America
Building on our longstanding partnership with GE, Endiprev has built up its expertise with Cypress wind turbines across the Atlantic. Since our first project in 2010 and the opening of our office in 2019, we have significantly grown our presence on American soil.
This growth has led to involvement in major onshore and offshore projects with GE. Notably, we played a pivotal role in the installation of the Block Island Wind Farm, the first commercial offshore project in the U.S. More recently, we contributed to the large-scale Parc éolien de Vineyard project, which our team is still working on. Both projects were significant milestones for Endiprev and hold a special place in our history.
Our first project in the U.S. with the Cypress model was at the Eight Point Wind Farm in New York. There, our team commissioned 31 wind turbines, helping generate enough energy to power 46,500 households. This success was largely due to the knowledge-sharing between our American technicians and our experienced European teams. Through collaboration on European Cypress projects, our U.S. teams gained invaluable hands-on experience, ensuring they were well-prepared for this assignment.
Throughout this year, we have been working on other significant projects, such as:
Cedar Springs Wind Farm, Wyoming
Featuring 73 Cypress 6.1 MW turbines, this is one of the largest onshore wind projects in the country. It provides renewable energy to over 190,000 homes. Our technicians were responsible for installation and post-installation services, ensuring optimal performance.
Beaver Creek Wind Farm, Iowa
Endiprev played a key role in supporting GE with the installation of the wind farm’s first wind turbine last June. Our team will continue working here until the end of the year, ensuring its complete installation. By next year, the facility should be fully operational.
Building Trust Through Expertise: Why GE Continues to Partner with Endiprev
Endiprev’s deep involvement with GE Cypress wind turbines is due to several key factors.
- First and foremost is our long-standing relationship with GE. For years, Endiprev has been a trusted partner, working on many of their wind turbine models. This solid foundation of trust, built on reliability, professionalism, and a consistent track record of delivering excellent results, was a significant reason why GE selected Endiprev to take on these projects.
- In addition to this enduring partnership, Endiprev’s expertise in wind turbine commissioning played a crucial role. Wind turbine commissioning is one of our specialized services. Over the years, we’ve developed a strong reputation for successfully handling complex commissioning projects. Examples of this are the Saint Nazaire Wind Farm, in France, and the Parc éolien de Dogger Bank, in the UK. The experience gained from working on various GE wind turbine models allowed us to transfer our knowledge seamlessly to the more advanced Cypress platform, making us fully prepared to face its challenges.
- Finally, our success with GE Cypress wind turbines can be attributed to our team’s training and hands-on experience. To ensure we were fully prepared, our team participated in crucial training programs in Germany, focusing on the unique requirements of this model. These programs, coupled with our hands-on work at the GE factory in the Netherlands, equipped our technicians with the in-depth understanding and confidence needed to handle the intricacies of this technology. This combination of training and practical experience enabled us to deliver outstanding results on Cypress projects across the globe.
Our successful partnership with GE over the years underscores Endiprev’s position as an exceptional provider of commissioning and maintenance services. Our global reach, technical expertise, and steady commitment to quality have been instrumental in delivering outstanding results.
As Endiprev continues to grow its portfolio of GE Cypress wind turbine projects, we remain committed to innovation, safety, and the highest standards of service. Our successful projects across Europe and the USA have solidified our standing as a well-grounded partner for GE. We look forward to expanding our reach with additional projects alongside this customer in the future, and further strengthening our partnership, contributing to the growth of the renewable energy sector.
